The revolution was actually a series of conflicts during the period — that involved shifting alliances of Haitian slaves, affranchis , mulattoes, and colonists, as well as British and French army troops. Yet Toussaint Louverture did not stop working with the Spanish army until sometime later, as he was suspicious of the French. The call for modification of society was influenced by the revolution in France, but once the hope for change found a place in the hearts of the Haitian people, there was no stopping the radical reformation that was occurring.
